A builder that looked as solid online as on site

A Birmingham building contractor with no website and a lot of word-of-mouth work. We built them a site that answers the questions homeowners actually ask before they let someone knock a wall down.

The problem

Modren Builders take on extensions, loft conversions, full renovations, kitchens and bathrooms across Birmingham and the West Midlands. Good work, steady referrals — and nothing to send a prospective customer to.

That is a real cost in their trade. A homeowner about to spend £40,000 on an extension will look you up. If there is nothing to find, the job goes to the contractor who has a site, even when they are not the better builder.

The brief was blunt: look like a safe pair of hands for a big project.

What we built

A single, well-ordered site that walks a nervous homeowner from “who are these people” to “book a survey” without ever making them hunt.

  • Hero that states the offer plainly — built properly, start to finish.
  • Six service categories — extensions, lofts, renovations, kitchens, bathrooms, general building — so the site catches every search term the business actually wants.
  • Why choose Modren — three differentiators, chief among them a promise most builders will not put in writing.
  • A five-step “how it works” that removes the biggest source of anxiety in building work: not knowing what happens next.
  • A gallery of completed projects — extensions, bathrooms and lofts photographed as finished rooms, not building sites.
  • Six customer testimonials, because in this trade nothing sells like a neighbour’s say-so.
  • A quote form with project type and budget selectors, plus a WhatsApp button — most trade enquiries come in from a phone, mid-thought.

The line that does the work

The single strongest thing on the site is their own pricing promise, and we gave it room to breathe rather than burying it in a paragraph:

Your quote is your price. We survey, we plan, we price — and that price doesn’t change. No hidden extras.

Every homeowner who has been stung by a mid-build “unfortunately” understands exactly what that sentence is worth. It is the whole reason to ring them instead of the next builder.

The design

Domestic construction sites tend to look like either a scaffolding invoice or a luxury property brochure. Modren needed to sit in between: established and careful, but still a firm that will return your call.

Forest green against a warm off-white does that. It reads as considered rather than corporate, and it holds up behind photography of real finished rooms.

Cormorant Garamond for headings, DM Sans for body copy. The serif carries the craft and permanence; the sans keeps the practical detail — service lists, process steps, form labels — easy to skim on a phone, which is where most of this traffic lands.

The result

A live, fast, mobile-first site that gives Modren something to point at — on a van, on a quote, in a Facebook comment. The word-of-mouth still does the work; the site just stops it leaking.
